Alexandra Forbes' Hair Salon

"Bangs" Workshop!

Make your cut longer than desired, as you will need a little more length to secure the fringe (bangs) for steaming.

Jade keeps the cut hair in case a little rerooting is needed, later...

The Steamer is filled with water and the timer is set for 10 minutes.

Jade is being steamed for 10 minutes.

Remember to keep checking your client!

Now the newly steamed hair is falling straight forward and the finished length is being cut!

Jade now sits and waits for her new hairstyle to dry naturally; you can hurry things along with a blow dry...

If you do use a hairdryer to speed things up, make sure it is set on cool and your drying angle is in the direction you wish the hair to lay..... for the fringe (bangs) direct the air downwards.

When the hair is nearly dry, you might want to shorten the fringe a little more.  REMEMBER, Jade's hair does not grow back, so cut a little at a time!

My name is Alexandra Forbes and I live in South Wales with my family and my Welsh Terrier Megan. I got my first doll when I was about four years old; a large Cissy-type doll called Kathy. It was a few years later before I started to want fashion dolls and the "must have" doll of the time in the UK was Sindy® by Pedigree. I amassed a huge collection of around forty dolls, including horses, cars, houses, etc etc. Sindy was my world! As the ads said, she was "the doll you loved to dress!"

Like most young girls, including my daughter Kimberley, at around the age of 12-14 years dolls are no longer "cool."  Boys, discos and clothes take over.  It wasn't until I was about 24,  while shopping at a Toy's R Us store, that I discovered the Barbie
® aisle! I was amazed at how far Barbie had come! Quickly, I bought my first doll in over 10 years and she re-lit my passion for them. After ten years of collecting Barbie, I wanted more from a doll.  That’s when Tyler® caught my eye!

First, I bought a nude Casual Luxury Tyler with a Basic Esme
® red dress to wear.  Then came a Look of Lux Tyler and a Standing Ovation Tyler  ….I was hooked! More dolls quickly followed.  Then, the beautiful Sydney® was introduced and it was love at first sight; such a gorgeous doll from the Tonner Company® and now the jewel of my collection!

This year, I have added some Fashion Royalty
® dolls and a large CED® doll to my collection. I am enjoying the variety that these dolls bring to my Play, but my heart is still with the 16 inchers!

I discovered repainted dolls just a few years ago. I love the way that talented repaint artists give the dolls a whole new "look". Having been a Hairdresser and Boardworker (Wig Maker), I naturally started playing around with the dolls hair. I first started styling and cutting the hair then moved on to re-rooting. Both processes give the dolls the individualized looks that I like.

My wishes for the future would be more articulation and a larger selection of 16inch Male and Female Fashion Dolls. Collecting fashion dolls has brought me so many wonderful friends all over the world. I hope you enjoy seeing my personal collection.
