Letter From the
Editor
I'm totally exhausted.
I have been for about two months. In trying to figure out why, I
finally realized that in just 6 months, I've built and opened my own
website, added Cissy to it, started the very popular Industry News page,
attempted to keep the Wardrobe Mixers list up-to-date, and published 4
issues of High Maintenance - which is really a full year's worth,
all while constantly designing new outfits and finding new things to
sell on my site. Also, this particular issue, for various reasons,
was significantly more work than usual. I cannot keep this pace
up!
In 2004, there will be four
issues of High Maintenance for the year, not four in the first
six months. The next three issues are already largely planned out,
with a wonderful new and, as yet, unknown designer being featured in the
Spring 2004 issue! One of my favorite things is finding new talent
and introducing them to the doll community. Unfortunately, the
nature of the magazine business (with it's 3-6 month lag time) often
means that my "discoveries" are discovered before I can show them off!
With the recent addition of
Haute Doll and Fashion Doll Quarterly magazines to the
doll community, I'm beginning to wonder if High Maintenance has a
decreasing value to my subscribers. It's an awful lot of work for
my staff and I to do if these new print magazines have made HM in
any way redundant or obsolete. One major advantage HM has
is that I can do in depth articles and make them as long as I want.
I'm not confined by a print magazine's budgeted number of pages.
This also means I can use many more pictures too.
If you'd care to write and
give me feedback on whether or not HM still has a useful and
significant place in the doll community, I'd really appreciate your
opinions. If it's no longer needed, I could use that extra time to
um..... maybe... actually... have a life!
