A Recreation of Princess Diana's Kimono Outfit

By Lisa A. Lawrence

Peach Kimono Presented to Princess Diana on her 1986 Trip to Japan

As a longtime Princess Diana collector, I was surprised to see a new doll designer appear out of nowhere with a very creative recreation of one of Princess Diana's numerous outfits.  I have bought many Diana recreations in the past few years.  Some of them fairly simple outfits; others quite complicated.  This was the first time I had seen someone use a computer to recreate "inspired" fabric from a real outfit!  Sylvia Braden made a wonderful recreation of the crane design on this outfit and then offered it for sale in two ways.  As a finished product (my choice) and as a Kit where you get the computer printed fabric, pattern and instructions to sew the kimono yourself.  I liked this idea.  It's a relatively simple pattern and the cost of the kit was a significant savings over the completed kimono.  (NO, I can't do simple patterns, OK!)  When I found Sylvia's design offered on the doll boards, I contacted her and asked if I could put the pattern in High Maintenance.  I quickly realized that Sylvia's sales would decrease significantly if I actually printed the pattern!   So, I negotiated with her to give High Maintenance readers a $5.00 discount on the kimono or kit!  Here's the information on what you get.  Just mention High Maintenance to her in your order to receive your discount!  For the record, I paid full price for my completed kimono!  It was worth it!
